Disneyland Paris

Why go

Two parks share one gate here: Disneyland Park, built around the familiar castle and classic rides, and Walt Disney Studios, leaning more on newer franchises and thrill rides like Crush's Coaster and the Tower of Terror. The scale is smaller than the American originals, which suits a family trip better than it sounds, since queues and distances are more manageable for small legs. Parades and fireworks remain the emotional centrepiece, especially after dark in winter.

Two full days, one per park, is the realistic minimum, with a third if fireworks and character dining are priorities. On-site or partner hotels earn early entry to some attractions, which matters more than almost any other single decision. Term-time visits outside French and UK school holidays are dramatically quieter than weekends and summer; Christmas brings its own decorations and events but also its own crowds.

Nostalgic, polished, unmistakably Disney

From our guides

The trick is to stay on-site or at a partner hotel for Extra Magic Time: that early-entry hour lets you clear Peter Pan and Dumbo before the queues form. Book character meals in advance and treat the second gate, Walt Disney Studios, as a half-day add-on.

Things to do

  1. Sleeping Beauty Castle

The park's centrepiece, with a walk-through dungeon and a dragon lurking beneath it, plus views over the whole of Fantasyland.

  2. Big Thunder Mountain

A runaway mine train coaster that laps an island in the middle of the park, gentle enough for most of the family.

  3. Phantom Manor

A haunted-house ride built around a Wild West ghost story unique to this park, distinct from its American counterparts.

  4. Crush's Coaster

A spinning, backwards-facing coaster themed to Finding Nemo, inside Walt Disney Studios and popular with older children and teenagers.

  5. Evening fireworks

The nightly show over the castle that closes out most visits to the park, drawing crowds along Main Street well before it starts.

  6. Disney Village

Shops, restaurants and cinemas just outside the gates, useful for evenings without park tickets or a change of pace from the rides.

Where to stay

Disney's own themed hotels, official partner hotels at the gates, chain hotels around Val d'Europe and a spread of apartments. Almost nothing independent or characterful.

  • Best base overall

    Disney hotels, Marne-la-Vallée

On-site means the early entry hour and a walk back for naps, which is worth more than the room itself. You pay a clear premium and the food options are all Disney.

  • Best value

    Val d'Europe

One stop away by RER, with chain hotels, a big shopping centre and normal supermarket prices. You lose the early-entry hour unless the hotel is an official partner.

  • Best with children

    Partner hotels, Chessy

Walking distance or a short shuttle from the gates, with family rooms and Extra Magic Time included. Shuttle queues at rope drop can be long.

  • Closest to the sights

    Central Paris

For pairing the parks with the city, the RER A runs out in about forty minutes from central stations. Doing both in one day makes for a very long evening with small children.

Worth knowing before you book: French and British school holidays sell out first and cost most. Book character meals and the early-entry hotel together, since partner status decides whether you get it.
