Why go

A very large water park spreads across the Palm, with more than a hundred slides and rides on two towers, a long rapids river and a private beach at the bottom of it all. The engineering is the attraction: near vertical drops, tubes that fire you uphill, a slide through a tank of rays and sharks. There are shaded pools and a separate splash area for younger children.

One long day covers it, or two spread out if you are staying on the Palm, since a room usually includes entry. Combine it with the aquarium, the beach and the rest of the city. November to March is the season, and from June the heat makes it hard work even in water. Anyone who dislikes queueing should arrive at opening or come on a weekday.

From our guides

Under-twelves get an enormous splash kingdom of their own. Stay at Atlantis itself and entry is included for the whole stay — often better value than two day tickets. Visit November to March; summer tarmac here could fry an egg.

Things to do

  1. Leap of Faith

A near vertical drop from the top of the ziggurat that finishes in a clear tube running through a lagoon full of sharks and rays.

  2. The rapids rivers

More than a kilometre of current, wave surges and tunnels carries you around the park without ever joining another queue.

  3. Trident Tower

The newer of the two towers holds the longer and steeper slides, including ones that launch riders uphill on jets of water.

  4. Splashers

A dedicated children's area with small slides, a climbing structure and shallow water, which lets younger siblings do their own thing.

  5. The private beach

The park backs onto a stretch of sand on the Palm looking across to the Marina skyline, and it is included with entry.

  6. Shark and ray encounters

Guided snorkels and shallow water encounters with rays and reef sharks run alongside the slides for an additional charge.

Getting there

  1. Fly to

    Dubai (DXB)

Nearest airport to Aquaventure, about 28km away as the crow flies.

  2. Then

    To Dubai

About forty minutes by car from Al Maktoum (DWC) to the Palm, or roughly the same from Dubai International, which handles most flights. Taxis and hotel transfers wait at both.

  3. On the ground

    Getting around

The park sits beneath the Atlantis hotels at the tip of Palm Jumeirah, reached by the Palm Monorail from the gateway station or by taxi across the trunk road.

Public transport: The metro reaches the base of the Palm, where the monorail continues to Atlantis; taxis are cheap and plentiful for everything else.

Where to stay

Large international beach resorts and serviced apartment towers, with budget business hotels inland. Very little that is small or independent, and licensed bars sit inside hotels.

  • Best base overall

    Palm Jumeirah

The park sits on the Palm, so staying here removes the transfer entirely and some hotels include repeat entry. It is a self-contained bubble, and leaving it means a taxi every time.

  • Best with children

    Dubai Marina and JBR

A beach, a walkable promenade and a huge choice of family apartments, fifteen minutes from Atlantis. Busy and boisterous, and the towers block the afternoon sun on the sand.

  • Best for couples

    Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Low-rise villas and smart beach hotels facing the Burj Al Arab, calmer than the Marina. Fewer restaurants within walking distance, so you will use taxis.

  • Best value

    Deira and Bur Dubai

The old city either side of the creek, with hotel rates a fraction of the beach strip and the metro nearby. No beach, and around forty minutes to the Palm.

Worth knowing before you book: Hotel guests at Atlantis get park entry for the stay, which often beats buying day tickets. Avoid July and August, when the heat makes the park genuinely punishing.

Good to know

Timing
Arrive at opening and take the biggest slides first. Queues build sharply from late morning at weekends and in school holidays.
Book ahead
Tickets bought online cost less than at the gate, and staying at the resort it belongs to usually includes entry for the whole stay.
Pack this
A rash vest for sun protection, footwear for hot walkways and a waterproof phone case. Sunscreen needs constant reapplying.
With kids
Height restrictions apply on the major slides and are enforced. Wristbands link to a cashless account, which saves carrying anything.
Getting there
The Palm is served by a monorail from the tram line, though taxis and ride hailing are quicker from most of the city.
